Rating 3 out of 5 (Fairly platitudinous)Some Christians, like the Catholics, the Baptists, the Methodists, the Evangelicals, the Presbyterians, the Calvinists, the Lutherans etc. think that the really important bit of Christianity is the visible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend being executed on the cross so that he can be sacrificed to the invisible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend for all our sins. No, no, no, no, no, this is all wrong. The really important bit about Christianity is the Resurrection of the visible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend by the invisible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend. It's this unique event that gives us all hope, that brings a new dawn, that brings light to the world, that is our inspiration, the culmination of the Christian message. That's why the Resurrection of the visible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend by the invisible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend is so important. Those who go around questioning whether he physically rose, or spiritually rose, or even whether he rose at all are just a bunch of petty nitpicking party poopers. As a Rev Dr, let me just assure you that I'm not in the least bit interested in what actually happened. I'm going to go on being inspired by the Resurrection of the visible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend by the invisible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend whether it happened or not. In these dark times, knowing that the Resurrection of the visible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend by the invisible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend really happened (or not) is just the kind of hope for the future that we all need.

> No its not; not the way you spell itThis had me scratching my head for ages. My spelling's notoriously bad. (I don't write accurately. Anyone can write accurately, but I write with great feeling.) But I couldn't figure out what the alternative spelling to Presbyterians might be.

Crap, I knew I should have checked the spelling but I was a bit busy. I'm sure it works if you spell it right though.Tuesday, 14 April, 2009, 09:08 AM
Peter My comment referred to Stonyground's spelling of Britny. Sorry - very trivial i know!
My smileys referred to your 'platitude'.

Er is it just me or do you always get the feeling around this time of year that rather than the bleedin' obvious metaphor that they like to bandy about, these "spiritual" people would do well to look out of the window and observe the genuine new life that is happening all around us as Spring starts to spring? Now that is an uplifting event... About 100 broad bean plants are poking out in my garden which I am ridiculously excited about!Tuesday, 14 April, 2009, 09:48 AM
Entirely agree with you Henry. We've put some netting up to protect the peas from the birds. Unfortunately our local fox thinks its tremendous fun to pull all the netting down again every night. GrrrrTuesday, 14 April, 2009, 09:17 PM
Henry, you have hit the nail on the head for me. Let the gloomy Christians anually torture their God to death and pretend it represents something wonderful. I think that Mel Gibson did the world a favour by spelling out just how revolting the whole thing really is.Meanwhile I have been working my arse off in the garden, loving every minute of it and sleeping like a log. The cherry tree and the plum tree have been putting on wonderful displays of blossom and the hawthorns are getting ready to do the same. The death and rebirth of nature is actually real and I suspect is the source of the stories of dying and rising gods that some simpletons take as literal truth.
If the equinoxes and solstices were celebrated as the year's landmarks, the entire world could unite as these things are real and universal. Instead we have disparate religions each celebrating their own particular brand of nonsense and excluding everyone else.

Seems like we need a gardening thought for the day site as well! Happy growing one and all!
