 Platitude of the Day
 BBC Radio 4 92 - 95 FM (198 LW)
We at the department of Religion & More Religion, recognise that only those who commune with the Invisible Magic Sky Pixie can possibly have any morality. Atheists, agnostics, humanists and other amoral non-believers are therefore excluded from the pure and godly Platitude of the Day, broadcast Monday to Saturday at 07.45 (but obviously not Sundays). For your further edification and spiritual improvement, we therefore present these concise, bite-size summaries of the wisdom of our presenters.

 Presenter Rob Marshall
Rating 3 out of 5 (Fairly platitudinous).
Summary We live in a world of instant high speed communications, so we get to learn about everything, and learn it very fast. That's good because now we can all be one people of God, just like God intended. It also means that everyone who thinks stories of Jesus and Mohammed are silly should shut up and do what religious people tell them to.

 Presenter Jonathon Sacks
Rating 1 out of 5 (Hardly platitudinous at all).
Summary With upsets over cartoons of Mohammed and the government's defeat on the religious hatred bill, we live in interesting times. Yet there are schools with children from 40 or more nations, all with different cultures, who must learn to get on with one another - and they do. You cannot legislate to make people respect one another, but you can teach them to.

 Presenter Rhidian Brook
Rating 4 out of 5 (Highly platitudinous).
Summary I'm in Mumbai, a really poor place where I feel bad about being so wealthy, but I want to talk about Kenya, where I've just come from, and which is a really, really poor place. I went there to do something and to be incredibly helpful to those poor people who have so little. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that these people were human beings who were capable of doing things all by themselves, without my assitance! I mean, who would have thought it?!

 Presenter Martin Palmer
Rating 3 out of 5 (Fairly platitudinous).
Summary Religion takes the long view. For Daoists, this is the year of the sleepy dog. There won't be another sleepy dog for ages. Sikhs have just started a 300 year epoch of nature. This is because religious folks understand things better than everyone else. So it's nice to see the UN coming out with some plans that last a bit longer than a Tony Blair promise.
