VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Stonyground|DATE|1357326574|CONTENT|Could it be that the 'prizes for all' notion that anyone can have a university education led to the situation where government funded further education is unsustainable? My sister in law works at a university and has to deal with students who have never read a whole book and can't comprehend how they are expected to write an essay without being spoonfed the required information in advance.

As for theology, it could only ever be a useful subject if it was admitted, in advance, that it is no different from the study of mythology, and was a study of how stories can help us to understand the human condition. Theology, as it is currently understood, is shackled by the fact that the existence of God appears to be non-negotiable. Christian theology takes the idea of revelation seriously despite the fact that the Bible is obviously nothing more than a big random pile of rather primitive writings translated and bound into a book. I really can't see any practical use for theology unless one studies it in order to have the authority to debunk it.|EMAIL|elizabeth@iww1967.wanadoo.co.uk|IP-ADDRESS|95.150.31.36|MODERATIONFLAG|
