The first Guru was appalled by the poor treatment of women in India, treatment that, as the recent rape and murder of a young student have shown, often continues today. As the Guru wisely pointed out, "Without women, there would be no one to give birth to men. Women are essential to provide men with companionship."

It was with this sense of fairness and equality that the tenth Guru named all women "princesses." He urged all Sikh soldiers to treat women with respect.

Young people need to be made aware of the dangers of internet chat and those who only seek to take advantage of them, but parents must also treat young people with respect so that they can learn the difference between true friendship and dangerous liaisons.
