We can all insult one another again!

Soon it will no longer be illegal to call a police horse "gay" or say "woof" to a police dog during the execution of its duties.

There is a long history of people insulting each other in these isles and long may it continue. I'm quite prepared to have my religion mocked, insulted, even blasphemed. We have to remember that Jesus was charged with blasphemy, which obviously means that blasphemy is OK. That's why Christianity has always been so relaxed about blasphemy.

However, there's a difference between insults aimed at equals or humour designed to highlight the powerful and the proud, and insults aimed at already marginalised minorities. Cyber bullying, for example, will remain illegal.

So, on the whole, I think Jesus and Saint Paul would approve of this modification of section 5 of the Public Order Act.
