VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Broga|DATE|1359562461|CONTENT|@Ann Sheppard: You remind me of my much loved mum's death 18 months ago. She knew she was dying and, such was her suffering, she wanted to die. She was very enthusiastic about the Stoics and their views. I have her copy, much annotated by her, of Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations."

She was an atheist and spoke with candour about her coming death. She once said, in her last week, that she was returning to the state that all of us were in for the billions of years before we were conceived. Another of her comments was that she didn't fear death because when we were here death was not; when death was here we were not. She viewed it as similar to the deepest and most profound sleep. She was very old, bedridden and often said, "I have had enough. It's time to go." She had a humanist funeral. If I have half as much courage and quiet acceptance when my time comes I shall have done well. She died with us at home. |EMAIL|denis.watkins1@virgin.net|IP-ADDRESS|82.31.5.155|MODERATIONFLAG|
