VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1360018723|CONTENT|Up to a generation or two ago it was perfectly acceptable in this country amongst those of a Protestant or non-conformist persuasion to be openly anti-Catholic. Perhaps folk memories of Bloody Marys persecutions still lingered, and descendants of the French Huguenots who had been forced to flee from Catholic massacres reminded their neighbours of the evils perpetuated by Catholics. Nowadays the politically correct and the multi-culturists insist that all religions and sects within those religions are benign and cuddly, and demand we treat them as so whether we believe it or not. In Continental Catholic countries it is still the norm to be anti-Protestant and regard the Reformation as an abomination. In Northern Ireland despite the peace process they mostly continue to hate each other.

British Christians, frustrated by no longer being allowed to hate those they consider not real Christians, have had to find new targets, and have settled on secularists, who are all militant and seeking the overthrow of civilisation as we know it. This despite the fact that the real threat to Christianity comes from militant Islam, with Islamists behaving as badly as Christians used to do.

On the whole, I dont think Longley has much to gripe about. The fawning obsequiousness shown to Europes last absolute monarch aka the Pope on his visit here, the regular trundling about the UK of assorted bones of assorted Catholic saints and the air time given to Vincent Nichols rants about gay marriage just goes to show how tolerant or indifferent we as a nation have become towards superstition and bigotry.
