VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Stonyground|DATE|1360343530|CONTENT|Regarding scholarship that has uncovered the highly dodgy nature of various scriptures. I can never understand the thought processes that go into studying something in detail to the point of realsing that it isn't what you thought it was, and then carrying on as if nothing has changed.

The New Testament is a glaring example. Half of Paul's letters are known to be forgeries, the Gospels are known to be between 99% and 100% fiction and the claims about the fulfillment of Old Tesament prophesies are obviously fraudulent. How can anyone who has dug deep enough to have found all this out continue to be a Christian? I once thought that maybe you could just take on the moral teachings of Jesus without believing in the rest of it. But once you ditch the supernatural stuff, what is left is either pretty unremarkable or else totally absurd.

I use Christianity as an example because I know more about it, but it appears that all religions suffer from the same problem to some degree. |EMAIL|elizabeth@iww1967.wanadoo.co.uk|IP-ADDRESS|95.150.29.241|MODERATIONFLAG|
