Let's talk about gay marriage. Actually, let's do all we can to avoid talking about gay marriage. In particular I'd like to avoid repeating anything that the Catholic Church has to say on the subject. Words like depraved or disordered won't be used. I won't even compare gay marriage to the reintroduction of slavery.

Ah yes, slavery, let's talk about that instead. Some churches were at the forefront in abolishing slavery, some weren't, but I think we can all take credit for the ones that were. They quoted the many parts of the Big Book of Magic Stuff that call for the abolition of slavery, such as, er... well just too many to mention. Even the churches that were in favour of slavery or apartheid have now had a revelation from the Invisible Magic Friend and have concluded that being black is nobody's fault after all.

There's that famous passage from Saint Paul, whom we naturally all turn to when we seek moral guidance. "Everyone is equal in the sight of the Invisible Magic Friend," said Saint Paul theologically, "even women and slaves." That's right, women and slaves will be treated just like real people by the Invisible Magic Friend. Although he didn't mention you-know-whos.

Now that everyone agrees that it's perfectly respectable to be black and that this was all the doing of Christianity, we come onto the issue of The Gays. Again, let's stay well clear of what my own church actually says on the matter. We don't talk about "gay rights", that would be to compare gay rights to a good, wholesome, acceptable struggle, like black civil rights. No, The Gays are all about "identity politics" and as we all know "politics" is a grubby, messy thing. BAD identity politics. Naturally, the Church doesn't want to sully it's pristine moral hands with anything as base as politics.

We, and by "we" I do of course mean "you", need to stop setting the political agenda of the militant gay activists, against the generous, tolerant, moral stance of the holy church, which abolished slavery in the face of fierce opposition by The Gays. Anyone would think the Church and The Gays were somehow in conflict.
