VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1360681819|CONTENT|I note that todays Torygraph has devoted most of its coverage to the shock news from Rome. The Torygraph has in recent years become an unapologetic apologist for the Catholic Church, but even by its own standards it surpassed itself today. It appears that its editors and columnists are having a collective nervous breakdown, wondering how they can possibly carry on now this most conservative of Popes has decided to out himself, as Pope anyway. Apparently we are all supposed to be reeling in horror at this flying in the face of tradition, of this defiance of hundreds of years of having Popes hang on until the bitter end.

Where have these people been for the last couple of centuries? Do they honestly think that the majority of us give a stuff that the last Absolute Monarch in Europe has decided hes not so ab fab after all? How can they delude themselves that this near-Fascist organisation with its near-Fascist ruler has anything worthwhile or of significance to contribute to the world today, other than serving as an example of the bloodshed and misery institutional religion can cause?
