VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1361269807|CONTENT|Somebody once told me that the thin white collars vicars and vicaresses wear around their necks, now usually made from plastic and colloquially known as dog collars, originate from the linen frames upon which people placed their ruffs, or frilly collars, which were worn during the reigns of Elizabeth and James 1.  Whether this is true I have no idea, or, if it is, why clergy continue to wear these remnants of a by-gone age, minus the ruffs.
