He was of indian descent (although he had never lived there himself), and a Jain. Not too many of those about. His family arranged a match with a distant cousin in India, also university-educated. He was perfectly free to turn it down, but he flew out there, liked her, and it went ahead. Of course, I haven&#039;t heard her side, whether she felt perfectly free to turn it down or not, but these are Jains, not Muslims, so a rather different culture. Anyway, it seems it certainly [i]can[/i] be something like a private dating agency.
