[blockquote]or "humble generosity" where there was none (so when will he be donating billions of Catholic church riches to the poor again...?) [/blockquote]

A good start would be for the vatican to repay the money diverted from the UK's aid budget to pay for the security of the now ex-pope's visit, because:

Firstly, I assume some projects somewhere didn't get funded and as a result actual thinking, feeling and breathing people living in challenging material conditions missed out on some positive investment. Real poor people, not just the metaphorical poor people the church witters on about.

Secondly, why does a pope, appointed & guided by god, and doing her/his/its work need security anyway?

Thirdly, while the host country is responsible for security of visiting heads of states, the vatican is not an actual country but a fabrication of Mussolini's who I understand founded the whole fascism thing and actually lost the war...so why is this bit of historical flotsam still around? A special interest group? Sure. Lobbyist? Sure. A country? A nation state? Farcical.

Particularly as the vatican was so keen on the nazis wiping out entire 'races' of populations such as jews, slavs, gypsies and godless socialists and their ilk. Such things are frowned upon nowadays, yet here is the vatican running global child sex rings, subverting democracies, condemning abortions even for raped 9-year olds whose aborted fetuses would otherwise have killed them and then posturing as moral leadership.
