VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Stonyground|DATE|1363808230|CONTENT|I seem to think that when the Christians co-opted the Pagan festivals of Yule and Easter, they got them mixed up. Yule is about the death and rebirth of the Sun, The winter solstice is usually on December 21st but a day either side is pretty much just as short so the Sun 'dies' for three days before starting to return to life. Easter, on the other hand, is about new life, eggs, chicks and bunny rabbits are obvious symbols of fertility, although it would have been hares originally, I think rabbits might have been introduced by the Romans.

Regarding the OP. There are certain aspects of the human condition that are timeless, for this reason certain ancient writings can still have something to say to us that is useful. However, generally speaking, the modern world is so entirely different to the world of first century Palestine, that the New Testament has very little relevence to our lives. This rather desperate attempt to pretend otherwise rather proves the point.|EMAIL|elizabeth@iww1967.wanadoo.co.uk|IP-ADDRESS|95.150.29.96|MODERATIONFLAG|
