VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Administrator (Rev. Dr. Peter Hearty)|DATE|1364289848|CONTENT|No one ever asks why mathematics is so effective in accountancy. It's just counting. As you count more and more things you create higher levels of abstraction in order to deal with them effectively.

The same is true in physics. You count atoms, wave crests, measure lengths, speeds. Then you create higher levels of abstraction to deal with them: force, energy, entropy.

Even where motion is completely random, as in a gas, you only have to apply some constraints, put the gas in a box, and you have new abstractions like pressure.

The isn't-it-wonderful-how-orderly-the-universe-is therefore the Invisible Magic Friend "argument", is just as sloppy thinking as the god of the gaps one. And as an astrophysicist who undoubtedly knows that many of those laws arise from basic symmetries, he definitely knows better.|IP-ADDRESS|94.168.119.214|MODERATIONFLAG|
