VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1364422805|CONTENT|The problem for me is that for all Jesuss much lauded gifts as a healer he added precisely nothing to the sum of human knowledge regarding health. Disregarding any so-called miracles what he did we would probably now regard as alternative, or faith healing or more unkindly quackery. He drew the crowds in with the odd healing trick or two, but his mission was not about healing but preaching.

If Jesus did possess powers of healing, magical or otherwise, he obviously decided to keep the secret to himself, and to allow many future generations to die or suffer for lack of knowledge of basic methods of health care like the prevention of infection by means of simple hygiene.

However, from the evidence available, it is far more likely that the historical Jesus knew no more about health and medicine than anyone else living at that time in other words, precious little.

It is also noticeable that for all Bell's belief in 'the next life' he was fairly anxious to remain in this one. At times of crisis, the basic instinct for survival often over-rides any myths about the after-life unless of course you happen to be a suicide bomber.
