VERSION|0.5.1|SUBJECT|The Most Reverend Father in God, Justin Welby, by Divine Providence Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of All England and Metropolitan |CONTENT|Rating 3 out of 5 (Fairly platitudinous)

There's a big Christian festival under way. Happy Good Friday everyone! Or should I say sad Good Friday everyone.

They've told me I have to get some recent news into all this, so how about the Cyprus bailout? On the one hand we have EU and IMF officials and the German government, all congratulating themselves on the successful destruction of the Cypriot banking industry, with the life savings of many retired pensioners wiped out. On the other hand we have the Cypriot banking industry, the thousands who will lose their jobs and the retired pensioners who have had their life savings wiped out.

Two very different points of view, which is exactly what happened at the crucifixion of Jesus. The Romans, the German government of the day, walked away happy with a job well done, of another troublemaker properly executed in the finest tradition of the empire. The followers of Jesus, in despair, all their hopes and dreams dashed.

What neither side knew was that Jesus was the visible bit of the Invisible Magic Friend and would rise from the dead two days later in accordance with the prophecy that he would rise three days later. Troublemakers rising from the dead was not part of normal Roman procedure and would be seen as very irritating by them.

To make the analogy complete, so it will be with Cyprus, or possibly not.

Anyway, I hope you've all enjoyed my Thought for the Day. Personally, I never listen to it. I've always got better things to do than listen to some nobody talking nonsense.
