VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Matt Westwood|DATE|1364555032|CONTENT|Good Friday should of course be renamed "Bl**dy Excellent Friday" because everyone in mainstream industry gets the day off. Even more than that, it's the first of four days off in a row!

"Mummy," I asked once, as an earnest five-year-old, "why do they call it *good* Friday, when Jesus was killed? Shouldn't it really be *bad* Friday?" I can't remember her reply, but it's always rankled with me that the day they celebrate a bit of bronze-age (or was it iron-age?) barbarism should be appended the smug self-satisfied adjective "good".

As for 4 days off, spare a thought for the poor sad people who have to work over the weekend: carers, shop-assistants (hello T**co, you abomination on the face of retail everywhere), various other workers on the infrastructure, and so on. Carers, in particular, paid not far above the minimum wage as it is, generally get no bonus for working tomorrow, Sunday and Monday (perhaps time and a half for Monday) The price that clients are actually charged for home care has increased recently, while the salaries paid to the workers has actually *gone down* (was about 7.60 an hour, now it's 6.80).
