How does the gas of one of the colliding galaxies end up rotating in the opposite direction to all the stars from the same galaxy?

From the Hubble page:
[blockquote]As in the majority of galaxies, all of the stars in M64 are rotating in the same direction[/blockquote]

Hmm. Therefore there is a minority of galaxies where that's not the case. Can anyone name a couple that I can read up about? Presumably this happens following collision while the stuff in the now combined galaxy is still unstable (?)|IP-ADDRESS|178.19.210.162|MODERATIONFLAG|
