VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Matt Westwood|DATE|1365665438|CONTENT|Lucy is indeed talking sense.

My first impressions, when seeing Paris Brosn on the TV, were:

a) If she's blubbing her eyes out on camera in such an emotionally incontinent manner, then maybe she's really not the person for the job. Perhaps they need to get somebody more mature.

b) I would have thought that it would be a good idea to employ someone a little older with more of an air of authority about her than someone aged 17. I remember the setup of my youth club many years ago: you don't really afford respect when you're a contemporary of the kids you're responsible for. Nobody was a youth leader who was actually that young themselves.

c) If she was genuinely the best that could be found for the job, then that's a worry. Notwithstanding point b) above, surely she has contemporaries who have more of an air of dignity and gravitas about them?

d) The whole exercise smacks of a Blairy "cool Britannia" sort of PR "yoof" exercise, which as a concept is utterly laughable. I remember when Janet Street-Porter was made some sort of commissioner for "yoof" back in the 80's (? might have been 90's) and the same sort of reaction was had then - although J S-P made a damn good fist of it.

e) Finally, the message had already emerged as a meme on Facebook, for example, where the question was asked: Is anybody ever going to be able to stand for President again? "Hey look, back when you were 14 you called someone a faggot on facebook!" etc.
