VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Edwin|DATE|1366221460|CONTENT|Having worked for Local Government most of my life I resent the paper pushing slander. I was a librarian and worked with many other departments. Were Trading Standards just paper fondler? Were road planners? etc etc ad nauseum?

Best practice in all sorts of fields came from the Public Services. National bodies of the various disciplines established the standards for works.

Most of the professional jobs have gone in libraries now so you no longer have as easy access to free, unbiased advice supported by evidence and professional skill to help with your young child's reading, your business information, music, art, local history and simply what book to read in your well-earned leisure.

Of course the Internet is a game changer but we used it, we pioneered its use and through computers in libraries helped the country to become computer literate and provided access to those unable to afford machines of their own.

It is not a trivial thing that those at the bottom of society could while away some time in our libraies in a warm and safe environment and the local gentry could experience a quality service based on their simple humanity not on the amount of cash at their disposal.

Live in a society with a really ineffecient and corrupt public service and you will realise what is being junked because of dogma, misinformation and the actions of the media.|EMAIL|aeduin@aol.com|IP-ADDRESS|92.6.73.199|MODERATIONFLAG|
