VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1366312823|CONTENT|I have a Motability car which I am eternally grateful for. Thanks to my advanced age, I will not be reassessed for PIP or Personal Independence Payment (which is replacing the Disabled Living Allowance) until 2015. I had a lifetime award for DLA because I had polio in childhood, and far from my condition improving, it is slowly getting worse as I have a condition called Post Polio syndrome, where the recovery following the original polio attack slowly breaks down. The assessment for PIP is going to be far more stringent than for DLA, but I suppose by 2015 I may qualify - not exactly something I would wish for though! There will be no lifetime awards for PIP, so presumably every year or so, I will have to fill out another one of those ghastly forms. Why anyone would imagine someone with permanently damaged muscles, double curvature of the spine, etc etc is suddenly going to 'get better' I don't understand. There was a time when the then government was encouraging people to go on disability benefits, because it removed them from the unemployment figures. Now anyone not lying on a stretcher or in a morgue is allegedly fit for work and claiming benefits for which they are not entitled. Hard luck on those who are or have been the victims of all such opportunistic policies and their makers. Undoubtedly there are some who swing the lead, but there are many more who will never receive the benefits they are entitled to.

Anyway, good luck to Terry with his reassessment.|IP-ADDRESS|79.66.221.134|MODERATIONFLAG|
