VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1366537021|CONTENT|No doubt some people were put off from having their children vaccinated by the now discredited MMR and autism link. However, I suspect that others were simply too complacent to bother. The epidemics of polio, scarlet fever and diphtheria which killed and disabled thousands of children took place in the last century and have largely been forgotten, except by the survivors. I believe parents have a duty to get their children vaccinated, not only for their own childrens sakes, but of children generally.

Should vaccination be compulsory? It is difficult to know how this could be enforced, but perhaps people should be required to opt-out rather than opt-in, and there should be more public education and awareness around vaccination and its benefits.

Unfortunately, there will always be those who insist that vaccination is harmful, and that immunity can be built up by boosting the bodys own defences against disease, by the use of various dubious and scientifically unproven methods.
