We run the East Ham churches as a team because we like to work as a team, that and the fact that there aren't enough vicars to go round.

East Ham is a local parish for local people. You'll find nothing for non-locals here. It's a very diverse neighbourhood, meaning that our locals are locals from all over the world.

In the few days that I've been here I've met unemployed locals, homeless locals, poor locals, hungry locals and a woman. As you can see, there's never a dull moment here in this local parish in Newham. I can scarcely find the time to come to the BBC and deliver Thought for the Day. I've been that busy!

Thankfully, all political parties agree that there should be more money for the poor, the homeless, the unemployed and the disabled. Although some parties in the local elections seem to want our diverse local community to become a considerably less diverse local community.

That's enough about other news stories, let's get back to my local parish for local people. You'd be amazed how many poor, homeless, unemployed hungry people there are out there. It's certainly surprised me.
