Once pre-humans evolved into humans their large brains meant they acquired self-consciousness, which in turn resulted in them becoming aware of their own mortality and of suffering. Being naturally inquisitive, they sought an answer as to why they had to die and why they suffered. One explanation they came up with was that they were being punished by the gods or spirits for some crime committed by their ancestors long ago, and this became the basis for the Adam and Eve myth and the story of the Fall.

Humans are by nature story-telling creatures. Today there is still an insatiable demand for stories, now usually presented in the form of television and theatre dramas and novels. People find it satisfying and cathartic to watch all kinds of dilemmas being played out on stage and screen.

Unfortunately, humans can become enslaved by their own myths when, for example, they turn those myths into religions.
