Interesting that Frank Field is complaining that the bishops are wasting seats which could be occupied by more engaged campaigners but doesn&#039;t also point out that they are also taking up &#039;men only&#039; seats which could otherwise be used for either men or women.

The C of E spokesperson&#039;s response is a classic of wordy b*llsh*t:

Kinda misses the point.  Field is appealing the to the Archbish of Cant to take action, not Cameron.  Oilwellby could do that unilaterally, he doesn&#039;t have to wait for a &#039;favourable political context&#039;.  How he can shamelessly hang on to these seats whilst claiming to be the moral and ethical conscience of the nation beggars belief.
