They're [i]so[/i] depressing. Child murderers, kidnapping, violence, it's all too much. As soon as I'm finished talking just switch off. You don't need this. Forget about the Today Programme, it'll only upset you. Do you really need all the gory details? It's voyeurism, a dangerous compulsion.

What you need is a nice Buddhist retreat. I had one in 1992. For four weeks I believed the Neil Kinnock had become Prime Minister. I was so happy!

Now we have 24 hour news channels. It just keeps going from bad to worse, more and more bad news. 

Try and focus your attention on nicer thoughts: blue skies, pretty flowers, children playing in the sunshine. It's what the Buddha would have wanted.
