Happy 100th anniversary of the death of the suffragette Emily Wilding Davison everyone!

I'd just like to spend some time talking about women. Many of my best friends are women, and I can tell you they have a terrible time. I want to mention organisations, rock groups and at least one bishop who think women should be treated just like real men.

But what I really want to point out to you is that Emily Wilding Davison was a Christian. Almost all British women in those days were Christians. They weren't Jewish or Muslim or Hindu or Sikh or Buddhist or atheists, they were Christians. It therefore stands to reason that Christianity can take credit for their courage and their sacrifices.

Once again, it is Christianity that led the way for women's rights. After only 2,000 years, we finally followed the famous teachings of Jesus, "Verily I say unto you, women should have the vote." As Saint Paul said, er, maybe we won't bother with Saint Paul this morning.

Oh, and happy 60th anniversary of the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She's a Christian woman too and look what that's done for her!
