Isn't the Queen just fantastic! Do you know what she did on the eve of her coronation? The Queen loaned three diamond necklaces to her mum, the Queen Mum, who had been queen until the Queen became the Queen. Wasn't that just fantastic?

But there's much more to being queen than just giving three diamond necklaces to the previous queen. She had to have the crown blessed and put on her head by the Archbishop of Canterbury. That's the point at which the Invisible Magic Friend made the Queen, the Queen.

The Queen has a vocation to be the Queen. If only doctors, teachers, police officers, journalists, politicians and sales personnel in department stores saw their calling as vocations. But no, nowadays it's all about money. What people really want is to be served by someone in a department store who does it for the love of service. I don't want someone to help me just because they're being paid to sell me a pair of gloves, they must love selling gloves. I want someone who wakes up in the morning and thinks, "If the Bishop of Liverpool and Bishop of Prisons comes into my department today and asks for a pair of gloves, I will take great pride in selling him a pair of gloves."

If only every sales person were as useful as the Queen. If only they thought about service rather than their glittering careers and hefty pensions. The Queen never spent her time thinking about becoming Queen. She simply worked her way up from being heir to the throne to being the Queen. Nor does the Queen waste time worrying about her pension. She simply gets on with being Queen, safe in the knowledge that this was the vocation that the Invisible Magic Friend had chosen for her.

Shouldn't we, and by "we" I do of course mean "you", be content to serve in the vocation that the Invisible Magic Friend has chosen for us?
