VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|David Harper|DATE|1371715145|CONTENT|Alas, you just know that the pickled prelate is right. We're going to be subjected to a lot of nauseating blather about the Invisible Magic Friend's role in World War 1.

My old grammar school headmaster fought in the Second World War. I vividly remember the occasion when he took one of our RE classes because our regular teacher was ill. He told us that he was an atheist, which was surprising in itself (this was the mid 1970s), but then he explained that he had lost his faith during his service in WW2, after seeing an army chaplain blessing tanks and artillery. How, he asked himself, could a religion of peace be used to bless instruments of death?

This made a deep and lasting impression on me.|IP-ADDRESS|172.20.128.250|MODERATIONFLAG|
