I enlisted and served honorably for four years as a US Marine and did a tour in Vietnam 1970-71. I still remember bits of the boot camp lectures we got in the summer of 1968. We were told that the UCMJ (uniform coed of military justice) REQUIRED us all to disobey unlawful orders. OK, while serving in the Marines, my CO tells me to listen in on civilian phone calls, that is an unlawful order. By the military's own rules, I must disobey. Oh, and maybe even report him for issuing an unlawful order.
One does wonder what sort of oath the civilian employees of a defense contractor (Booze Allen as I recall) take/took upon employment.
I am not trying to start a fight here, just pointing out how we were taught in 1968. No doubt the rules have changed since. Odd small stuff like Dan Ellsberg and those pesky "Pentagon Papers" come to mind.
Oh, and I DO think Ellsberg was a hero, still is. While Ollie North needs his groin kicked and hard. I'd be more specific, but this site should remain polite.
Snowden didn't really say much that many of us had suspected for years. Just my humble 2 cents worth.|EMAIL|bear4751@gmail.com|IP-ADDRESS|173.217.203.199|MODERATIONFLAG|
