Two possible answers: 1)no modern religious writer has anything of interest to say on any subject and so the TFTD speakers are forced to co-opt secular writers (Jane Austen the other day) to their cause; 2)it&#039;s a hypocritical tactic to show how forgiving, tolerant and broad-minded &quot;people of faith&quot; are these days.
