It was in Athens that Solon invented democracy. He was born just before Cylon attempted to take power. Then Athens executed Socrates for thinking, which shows that even a democracy with Sci-fi sounding names like Solon and Cylon isn't all good.

John Stuart Mill warned of the tyranny of the majority, where minorities are oppressed. Democracy isn't enough, freedom requires respect for minorities and the rule of law.

This is where the Big Book of Magic Stuff comes in. Jews, Christians and Muslims, all agree that the original Big Book of Magic Stuff is a big fan of democracy, accountability, respect for minorities, freedom of religion, the rights of women and everything else that religion invented and that we take for granted in modern liberal democracies.

This comes from the idea that we are all made in the image of the Invisible Magic Friend. That's what gives us human rights. If we weren't made in the image of the Invisible Magic Friend then we wouldn't have any rights and anyone could do anything to anyone that they felt like.

And that is why you should respect the rights of others who have a different opinion, race, lifestyle, religion, sex [strike]or sexuality[/strike] from your own.
