VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1373926227|CONTENT|Whatever her personal beliefs may be, Malala is walking a tightrope here. She comes from a ultra-religiously-conservative part of the world, and in order to keep the majority on her side, she has to try to convince them that real Islam is not against female education. Like the Bible, the Koran can be shown to favour anything the interpreter wants it to favour, and vice-versa. Consequently, according to which theologian is consulted, and which bit of text they use to prove their case, the Koran advocates the equality of women, peace and tolerance of other religions, but also their direct opposites.

Despite all the efforts of the politicians, theologians, apologists, appeasers, multi-culturalists, etc. to convince the West that Islam is a nice religion, many if not most non-Muslims remain unconvinced, and given the evidence this is hardly surprising. It is also the case that the most extreme and fundamentalist versions of any of the Abrahamic religions are also the most misogynistic. I know of no exceptions to this rule, though if anyone knows differently I hope they will tell me.
