Pope Francis talks a lot about poor people. Isn't the Pope just fantastic! He's so much better than the previous Pope, although I may have previously said that he was fantastic too. He talks about poor people. He loves poor people. He wants poor people to become rich so that the Invisible Magic Friend will hate them. No, wait a minute, that can't be right. He wants poor people to stay poor so that the Invisible Magic Friend will love them. No, hold on, I don't think that's right either. He wants poor people to be slightly less poor but not so much less poor that they become rich.

It's a bit like Liberation Theology, or the "theology of liberation" as we distinguished Catholic commentators like to call it. This was a theology that tried to be nice to poor people. Well the Vatican soon squashed that. You can tell it was "The Vatican" and not the Pope, because it was a slightly nasty move at a time when all the Latin American bishops were getting along quite nicely with their various right wing dictators.

What someone needs to do is to give poor people jobs. Yes, that's what is needed, jobs for poor people. Jesus, the Pope, the Catholic Church, and possibly even the Vatican, want jobs for poor people. Somebody ought to do something to provide jobs for poor people.
