Yes, it&#039;s stuffed full of [url=http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/think-how-good-the-house-of-lords-could-be-8743839.html]party donors and failed political candidates[/url], but it also has a good complement of people from across a wide range of interests, experts in their field with the life experience necessary to contribute to the debate.

The quality of debate in the Lords is often far superior to that in the Commons. The need to follow the party line is removed. They are not bound by populism either.

As it says in wise old Psalm 90 of the Old Tast mint, &quot;An unelected, revising chamber can add much to the quality of legislation, provided it does not have the power to block the elected house indefinitely and is not controlled by corrupt, vested interests.&quot;
