Hundreds have died demonstrating in support of ex-President Morsi. This is a Bad Thing. It would be much better to have a liberal, democratic, pluralist society, certainly better than either an Islamic state or a military coup.

This is what happens when people with strong religious beliefs try to run things. We should be grateful that we live in a country where nobody believes in anything. People just don't get that excited here about the undoubted opinions of the Invisible Magic Friend. Believers are confined to a tiny minority who can mostly be ignored and who occasionally pop up in the middle of news programmes to tell you how right we are and how much better things would be if it was done our way.

I'm here to tell you how lucky you are that the we're not in charge.
