VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Dinah|DATE|1378294869|CONTENT|For me, this morning's effort was a load of sentimental twaddle. Conceiving a child in a war zone, under daily bombardment, in constant danger of death or injury, is not responsible behaviour. There are hundreds and thousands of Syrian babies and children, many of whom will be scarred physically and/or mentally for life as a result of the conflict. Comparing their situation to the birth of Jesus is nonsense, because as Tesh and others have already pointed out, the circumstances of his birth were made up by Biblical writers to try to boost his credentials as a Messiah. If the Bish genuinely believes in the Nativity story, then he must also believe his God protected the child in order for it to fulfil its destiny (the alleged flight to Egypt was allegedly the result of a warning dream from God). Even such as the Bish have to accept their gods do not protect other babies and children from appalling suffering, injuries and trauma. Far more practical and humane would be to make sure all adults in refugee camps are offered reliable methods of contraception so fewer babies are born in such terrible conditions.|IP-ADDRESS|79.71.119.148|MODERATIONFLAG|
