VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|andym|DATE|1378538505|CONTENT|This notion of unconditional love is one that has long annoyed me. I believe it to be neither possible nor desirable. Could or should we have it towards Pol Pot, Hitler, Ian Brady, Huntley?

It's not just religion. Rogerian humanistic psychotherapy has the equally silly notion of "unconditional positive regard." Many years ago, I had a lecturer who banged on about, and reduced virtually every issue to this notion. I once asked him that if a client revealed he was a serial child abuser, would you continue to show it,or pick up the phone and inform the police. Answer came there none.

To me, the latter course is an ethical as well as a legal requirement, thus making the whole idea impossible. |EMAIL|andrewm030@aol.com|IP-ADDRESS|90.218.17.72|MODERATIONFLAG|
