The purpose of morality is to impose social cohesion, and displays of humility would tend to make those around us like us better than they otherwise might.  If we dislike being humble, then we should try to guard ourselves against doing things that might anger others.  

Both these practices would tend to make your group more cohesive and stronger, and less vulnerable to invasion, exploitation and abuse by other groups.
