If we do those good deeds &#039;in the name of&#039; the previous incarnation of the ancestors it helps them in their current incarnation. If we do exactly the same thing but don&#039;t name the ancestors, it does them no good at all.

I have to assume there is some cosmic logbook where these karmic debt repayments are entered, and the logbook keeper is too lazy to look up who your ancestors were to give them credit, so you have to make it explicit. Send them a note of it. However, they are able to connect the names of dead people that you acknowledge with the new names these souls have now.
