Almost certainly that&#039;s wrong. Given the state of understanding of the universe at the time, the Genesis account was a perfectly reasonable guess. It is very similar to other origin stories which were undoubtedly intended to be &quot;scientific&quot;. The story very quickly becomes a history with no change of style, no indication from the author that Part A is myth while Part B is fact. And the church he is a member of accepted the literal truth of Genesis right up to the point where it was proved wrong. It is quite clear that the intention of the writer was to set out how things actually happened.
