VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Administrator (Rev. Dr. Peter Hearty)|DATE|1382950074|CONTENT|I think there is a subtle difference between this and the god of the gaps (GOGS). GOGS seeks to find things that we currently don't have an explanation for, the Big Bang, the origin of life etc. and slots god in as a convenient explanation.

The Ref Dr Dr Prof's argument this morning considers systems that in principle we do understand but can never predict. This god can cause random mutations to direct evolution, manipulate atmospheric turbulence to smite unbelievers, or time quantum transitions to reveal himself as thoughts in prophets' brains. He can make the world do what he wants without breaking any laws of nature and so keep himself hidden, and then punish you for not believing in him.

A lot of believers like to say that "It can't all just be random." In the days when I could be bothered to argue with religious apologists, I used to try and point this argument out to them: that randomness is their friend. It is the final place where their god can hide and no atheist can ever get at him. |IP-ADDRESS|92.236.214.196|MODERATIONFLAG|
