VERSION|0.5.1|NAME|Stonyground|DATE|1384769441|CONTENT|"On the box this morning Anne Widdecombe was lamenting the lack of contrition, of penance and of self-denial."

I suppose that contrition might have some value, had I done something that merited it. But what exactly is the point of penance and self denial? I suppose that I do have to do a little bit of self denial due to my having a medical condition that entails a slightly restricted diet. Does that count, given that it is for my own well being that I do it?
